This painting is unique for the artist in being mixed media: oils are used in conjunction with watercolour washes, allowing for a mixture of opaque solidity and transparent lightness which continues the theme of neoclassical duality that pervades the South of France works. Passages of architectonic presence and of insubstantial form are created by effects of light.
