This lively and charming piece is one of the Window Seriess major works. It began with loose, free washes to give depth and sparkle, and then the images were tightened and articulated. There is an interplay of clear colours and complex shapes, but the whole structure is carefully disciplined. The artist is fascinated with this particular image, and has painted another drybrush watercolour on the same theme, Queen Street Window II. |
