This painting depicts the Christmas window of a restaurant on Torontos Spadina Avenue, where the artist often ate. Christmas tinsel hangs in loops from the ceiling and the surface of the glass is fogged with steam in the chilly evening. Barbecued ducks hang in a case in the window, and the Chinese lettering advertises a seasonal rice dish eaten in memory of ones ancestors. This
delicate piece was done with loose watercolour washes and pure colours. The artist has also executed a large oil on canvas of the same subject, Chinatown Window II.
